This painting was partly inspired by the
playful, spiritual nature of the Matisse painting
"Dancers." Art Jonker also wanted to impart a serious
tribal aspect to it, inspired by studies of the history of
Papua New Guinea. His purpose was to portray
natural beauty and the connection between humankind
(particularity women), nature, fire and the earth.
